Winter Skin Care Tips

In this post you will read about
Winter skin care tips,

How to take care of overall skin including Chapped Lips, Dry Hand, Cracked Heels, Itchy Scalp etc.

Hi,

Winters are so shrewd on our delicate skin and hair. Harsh winds, chilly temperatures, dry air, heaters in the home everything effects the moisture level of the skin and makes it dryer, itchy and flaky. We need to take extra care of our skin in winters. Here is a winter skin care regime you can follow and this will help your skin to rejuvenate.

Avoid Hot Water Shower :

Start with a lukewarm water bath. Although the hot long showers are so relaxing but they tend to strip moisture from the skin and hair scalp.

Exfoliate the Flaky Skin :

Use an exfoliating scrub in shower to get rid of dead dry flaky skin.

Pat Dry Skin :

Don’t rub your skin with towel to dry. Always pat it dry. Rubbing the skin makes it drier and flakier. Patting it dry locks in the moisture.

Deeply Nourish Your Skin :

Instantly apply a deep nourishing body lotion while your skin is still wet. Skin will absorb the cream quickly and easily and it will look it moisture for much more longer time. This trick works all the time for me and it gives hydrated skin in no time.

Dry Elbows, Knees, Ankles, Nails?

Always Give extra attention  to areas like elbows, knees, ankles, nails etc. Often we tend to ignore these areas and they result in dry flaky and even bleeding. Apply generous amount of body lotions here and rub it in. Apply a good dose of petroleum jelly to keep them nourished and lock in moisture.

Tackle Cracked Heels :

For cracked heels, give yourself a home pedicure. If you don’t have that much time then atleast use a pumice stone to get rid of dead cells while in shower. There are many creams available in market for cracked heels. My favourite being KRACK from chemist shops. I apply some generous amount  of it on my foot and massage it then follow with a coat of petroleum jelly . Then I wear my socks. This keeps my heels and foot nice and crack free. Do this at night as well and your heels will say thank you.

Dry Palms and Hands :

Esp Ladies staying at home / home makers face this to great extend. Washing hands again and again dries them tremendously. Avoid washing hands with soaps. Try using creamy hand washes. Always keep a deep nourishing cream on your wash basin, as soon as you wash your hands use the hand cream to nourish the skin. Use a Cream instead of lotion, Creams are thicker and more nourishing. For night time use a hand cream and massage well and then apply petroleum jelly and wear cotton gloves. This will heel all the nicks and blisters on hands and keep skin soft. My favourite Hand Cream – MARKS AND SPENCER LAVENDER HAND CREAM

Care for Chapped Lips :

Chapped Lips is yet another most common issues in winters. Dont lick your lips. Licking lips will dry them even further and that will lead to cracks and bleeding and even cause pigmentation. Exfoliate lips with Sugar and olive oil. The dry flaky skin can also be brushed by using an old toothbrush. After exfoliating apply a thick coat of lip balm. My favorite Lip Balms are – Blistex, Lipz by Ethicare, Sebamed lip balm, Burtbees Beeswax Lip Balm etc.

Static Hair :

Do your literally stand up when they come in contact with any woolen, plastic or metallic thing?Static hair are result of over dried scalp. Oil up your hair and scalp on regular basis. I like mixing 5 oils – olive, almond, coconut, mustard and castor in equal proportions and apply it hot on my scalp for 1 hr and wash. I do it twice a week. Other than applying oil deep condition your hair once a week with a hair mask. Use a hair conditioner every time after shampooing. Static hair is usually sign of dry scalp , if so then there is no harm in applying conditioner on the scalp. I love using serums as well. Here is a great tips to take care of frizzy hair . My favourite Deep Conditioner Mask – Honey + Thick curd applied for 30 mins and washed with shampoo, followed by Pantene Deep Conditioner/ Schwarzkopt Fiber Reconstruct. I towel dry my hair and apply the deep conditioner for 10 minutes. and wash with water thoroughly. For normal conditioning, I am currently loving Loreal Smooth Intense shampoo and conditioner.

Red Nose and Cheeks :

If you get red nose or cheeks because of dry winter air, give yourself a warm compression. Take a tissue and warm it up by blowing air. Just press it down on the area. Repeat a few times. Follow with some cream. Warm compression will help with increasing the blood flow my dilating the blood vessels. Moisturize the skin to keep it from drying.

Facial skin:

Deep nourishing creams and sunscreens are best for winter seasons. In day time dont forget to apply nourishing sunscreens, Moisturizing sunscreens are abundantly available in market. My favorite this season is Lakme 9 to 5 Super Hydrating Sunscreen,  Vedic Line + SunProctor Sunscreen Cream Gel SPF 30, UVMed Sunscreen Gel SPF 50 by Ethicare. My skin is extremely dry, in summers I love using serums but in Winters I cant escape heavy creams. My skin loves Hydrofil Cream from Ethicare, I even apply it on my arms and legs. Nivea skin cream is also my favorite. I at times love to mix Glycerine to hydrate the skin. For Oily Skin, Apply Neutrogena Oil Free moisturizer, It has both variants – with SPF and without. Hyalugel by Ethicare is also a great option for Oily Skin.

Few of my favourite body lotions for winters :

  • Hydrofil Cream by Ethicare,
  • Hydrofil Lotion by Ethicare,
  • Nivea body lotion,
  • Ayur cold cream,
  • Dove lotion,
  • Himalaya intensive moisturizing body lotion,
  • The Body Shop Body butters,
  • Oilatum body lotion
Hope these Winter Skin Care tips help you in prepping the skin in winters.
Stay Beautiful,
