Why Toner Should Be Part of Your Skincare Routine

You may not give this extra step much thought, but once you
know the benefits, you’ll be sure to add it into your nighttime routine! Facial
toner plays an important role in the way your skin looks and feels — not only
does it ensure a deep clean, but it regulates skin balance, tightens pores and
provides hydration for perfectly plump and glowing skin. Sounds like a no
brainer to us! So, why are you skipping this simple step when you could get
perfect skin instead? Here to help you decide which toner is perfect for your
skin type, we have esthetician Amy Goldenberg of Luxelab in Pasadena,
California.
Added Hydration: The key to youthful skin is maintaining
moisture and hydration. “Toners with Vitamin E soothe and refresh skin to
instantly leave your complexion looking healthy and luminous,” says Goldenberg.
If all you need to do is saturate a cotton ball and give your pretty face a
swipe for soft skin, we’re game!
Exfoliating Agent: Exfoliating regularly has never been
easier! Micro-exfoliating toners visibly reduce pore size by gently unclogging
dirt, oil and other impurities after cleansing. “Products with Beta-Hydroxy
Acids or Lipo-Hydroxy Acids efficiently remove excess residue and decongests
clogged pores, leaving skin refined and purified,” says Goldenberg.
Clarifying Solution: “To help combat acne, use a toner with
salicylic acid to encourage shedding of dead skin cells that cause congestion …
and therefore, unwanted blemishes,” says Goldenberg. Look for an alcohol-free
formula that won’t dry skin out, but leave it feeling conditioned and refreshed
to promote fast healing.
Treat Dry, Sensitive Skin: “If you have sensitized skin, you
should use a hydrating toner with skin-comforting ingredients like rose,
chamomile or honey (a natural humectant),” says Goldenberg. Toner will gently
purify skin and leave it feeling healthy and hydrated without the heavy feel.
Balance Oily Skin: Balance your skin’s pH levels with a
gentle daily toner to keep oil and acne at bay. “I especially recommend toner
to my clients with oily skin to remove excess dirt or oil left over on the
skin after cleansing,” says Goldenberg. Regular use of a toner will train your
pores to handle excess oil, shrink enlarged pores and help your skin get a
handle on shine!
Must-Have for All: No specific skin problems? (Lucky you!)
No problem! A toner is still an essential step for preserving your skin’s
perfection, while balancing and brightening your complexion. “Maintain
your youthful glow by using a toner with glycolic acid to keep away fine lines
and fight congestion,” says Goldenberg.
